Sports are a great way to help build character. Kids learn how to work hard, how to persevere, how to win, how to lose, and many other life skills necessary to be a successful adult.

Every year, in the third week of July, young athletes are celebrated around the country during National Youth Sports Week.

National Youth Sports Week is an opportunity to applaud and recognize millions of young athletes, parents, volunteers, and organizations helping grow and grow youth sports around the world. The National Council of Youth Sports and the Congressional Youth Sports Caucus kicks off the week on Tuesday, July 16th by hosting a physical activity expo in Washington, D.C..

Throughout the week, youth sports organizations all over the nation advocate the importance of playing youth sports and their positive long-term effects.

Kids who are active in youth sports are fitter; have healthier body weights; and are more confident. The risk of blood pressure, heart disease, osteoporosis and other chronic diseases is lower among physically active people, which makes it all the more important for children to appreciate the importance of physical activity at a young age.

Studies have found children who participate in sports are more academically driven with better attendance, lower dropout rates, and higher graduation rates. Youth sports also improve social skills, creates better health, lower risk of negative influences, and increases self-esteem and confidence.

Newton Park was created to provide a safe enviroment for children to grow both physically and mentally to be better citizens. We recognize the athletes who play on our fields, the coaches who volunteer, and the parents who make sure their kids are involved in youth sports.

In conjunction with LaVille Youth Sports, Newton Park is host to various youth leagues - spring & fall soccer, summer baseball, softball, & teeball leagues. These leagues have been created with no district lines at affordable prices so everyone can play at Newton Park's Hall of Fame Facility!

National Youth Sports Week is the perfect time to get kids outside and involved in organized sports at Newton Park! Visit lavilleyouthsports.com to register for our fall, spring, and summer leagues.
